Why Shenzhen
Office in the city since 2014. Tooling, molding, and electronics assembly sit next to each other. Our employees can visit more than one shop in a day and send Austin what they saw.
What we will not claim
We do not promise every factory, every duty rate, or every certification up front. Process, capacity, and quality are checked per part.

Contract manufacturing process
From signed 3D to a China production lot
Austin Mechatronics runs contract manufacturing in China with program control in Austin and our own employees in Shenzhen. The office opened in 2014. The four steps are create the 3D and DFM package, source and qualify the shop, lock a first article, then run production from 2,500 pieces up. We place work across processes. The programs we run hardest are injection molding and electronics assembly.
Step 01
Create the 3D and DFM package
China production fails most often on a drawing that was never built for the process. Austin starts with CAD and design-for-manufacture: tolerances that a shop can hold, materials that can actually be sourced, finishes, hardware, assembly notes, and inspection points. The package is what the Shenzhen team walks into a factory with — not a render and a hope.
If the 3D is wrong, the quote is fiction and the first article will be late. Sign-off happens in Austin before tooling money moves and before a factory is treated as locked.
Step 02
Source the shop — on site in Shenzhen
Our Shenzhen employees go to the floor. They look at the process that would make your part — injection tool, press, SMT line, assembly bench, fixtures, quality station, packing — and whether the shop has run this kind of work before. Photos and a quote are not the same as standing next to the machine.
Austin gets that report and decides with you. One U.S. contact. You are not managing WeChat threads with three vendors you have never met. The people walking the shop have been our employees for more than twelve years, not a local agent hired for the week.
Step 03
First article against the Austin 3D
Tooling or process setup comes next. First article is measured against the signed model and the spec pack — not against “close enough for a sample.” The Shenzhen team can be there for the pull, the layout, or the functional check so the story from the factory matches the part in the box.
Production does not start because a factory said the sample looked good. It starts when Austin accepts the article.
Step 04
Production with eyes on the floor
Once the article is accepted, the lot runs to that standard — typically 2,500 pieces and up. Our people on site are the difference between a PO sent to China and a program that can still catch a bad batch, a resin swap, a missed SMT pass, or a packing change before the crate leaves the dock.
This is contract manufacturing in China for teams that have a drawing or an Austin prototype and need a shop that can repeat it at production volume. All processes are on the table. Injection molding and electronics assembly are where we spend the most time on the floor.
Why this structure
A factory in China is not the hard part. Seeing it is.
You can find a supplier on Alibaba in an afternoon. You cannot sit in their QC room from Austin. That is the job of the Shenzhen team.

Capacity, process, and shipping are scoped for the job. Not copied from a generic China brochure.
Tariffs, HS codes, and freight are mapped before the PO when the part needs it. Not after the container is on the water.
